Vintage Southeast Asian Parang/Golok Knife w/ Carved Wooden Scabbard

Interesting vintage Southeast Asian traditional parang or golok-style knife complete with its fitted carved wooden scabbard.

This substantial hand-crafted knife features a long, dramatically curved single-edge steel blade paired with a carved hardwood handle terminating in a pronounced hooked pommel. A metal ferrule is fitted where the blade enters the grip. The overall form is characteristic of the traditional large utility knives and edged weapons found throughout Indonesia, Malaysia, Borneo, and the surrounding Malay Archipelago.

The blade displays considerable age and character, including dark patina, surface oxidation, staining, scratches, sharpening marks, and general wear consistent with an older working blade. It retains a strong profile with an upswept point.

The fitted wooden scabbard is an especially attractive part of the piece. It is constructed from carved wood with geometric line decoration, raised decorative elements, dark binding bands, and an attached woven carrying cord. The terminal portion of the scabbard is carved into a stylized decorative shape. Both the knife and scabbard show evidence of hand workmanship rather than modern mass production.
