Original vintage U.S. Immigration Service tie tack / uniform accessory manufactured by the well-known Waterbury Companies Inc. of Connecticut, a longtime American producer of government, military, police, and uniform insignia.

The round gold-tone medallion features a bold raised “US” in the center surrounded by the wording “IMMIGRATION U.S. SERVICE.” The face has a finely lined background with crisp raised lettering and an attractive bright gold-tone finish.

The piece is complete with its safety chain and horizontal buttonhole retaining bar, designed to secure the tack to the wearer’s shirt while in use.

The Waterbury maker marking is particularly useful for identifying the piece. Waterbury Companies Inc. is documented as a manufacturer of American uniform buttons and insignia, and the “Waterbury Co’s Inc. Conn.” backmark is associated with the Waterbury Companies name used beginning in the 1940s.
