The Winchester Model 1894 AE (often just called the Winchester 94 AE) in .44 Magnum with a big loop (also called large loop) lever is a popular variant of the classic lever-action rifle. The "AE" stands for Angle Eject, a feature introduced around 1983 that ejects spent cases sideways (to the right) instead of straight up, making it easier to mount a scope without interference from the ejection port.

Key Features and Variants

This configuration is typically found in Trapper or Wrangler models:

Barrel length: Often 16 inches (common for Trapper carbines), making it compact and handy for brush hunting or saddle use.

Big loop lever: Designed for easier operation with gloves, in cold weather, or for a more "Western/cowboy" feel (popular in cowboy action shooting or homage to old Western films).

Other common features: Saddle ring on the receiver (for sling/carry), walnut stock, blued finish, and a tubular magazine holding around 7-9 rounds depending on exact setup (shorter barrels reduce capacity slightly).

Caliber performance: The .44 Remington Magnum in a rifle-length barrel gains significant velocity over revolver loads—often 1,700-1,900 fps with 240-grain bullets—delivering strong stopping power for deer, hogs, or bear at moderate ranges (effective out to 100-150 yards).

The big loop + AE + .44 Mag combo was produced in limited runs, especially in the 1980s-1990s (post-AE introduction). Some were special editions like Wrangler Centennial models with saddle rings and large loops.
