WWI Imperial German Bavarian Infantry Feldpostkarte-“Flying Bavarian Infantry Division” European Campaign Map Postcard

Original World War I German military Feldpost postcard featuring a humorous illustrated campaign map relating to a Bavarian infantry division.

The card is headed “Ja, ja! Unsere fliegende bayr. Inf. Div.!” (“Yes, yes! Our flying Bavarian Infantry Division!”) and humorously asks where the unit has already been, where it is now, and where it might ultimately be when the command “Das Ganze halt!” (“Everybody halt!”) is finally given.

The central illustration depicts a map of wartime Europe with numerous countries and regions identified, including the German Empire, France, Belgium, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, Great Britain and Spain. The design humorously reflects the extensive movements and deployments experienced by German troops during the First World War.

Printed text beneath the map continues the joke, referring to the person who can determine the unit’s whereabouts being rewarded with food and either being sent home by Zeppelin or, if desired, sent to Turkey. It is signed in print “gez. K. Blindgänger, z. Z. im Felde” — essentially a humorous pseudonym meaning “signed K. Dud, presently in the field.”

The reverse is printed “Feldpostkarte” and remains unused and unaddressed, with no postal cancellation or handwriting.

A very interesting and visually appealing piece of WWI Imperial German/Bavarian military humor and field-post ephemera, considerably more desirable than a standard scenic Feldpost card.

Condition is good for its age with expected light toning, corner/edge wear, and a horizontal crease through the card. Please see photographs for exact condition.
