WWI U.S. “Exempt” Draft Lapel Button – Whitehead & Hoag

Original World War I era U.S. “EXEMPT” lapel button, manufactured by Whitehead & Hoag. These small patriotic buttons were worn by men who were exempted from military service or otherwise discharged from draft obligation, helping show the public that the wearer had registered and was not simply avoiding service.

The front features a raised patriotic shield design with “EXEMPT U.S.” around the border. The reverse is clearly maker marked “Whitehead & Hoag,” a well-known American badge and button manufacturer. Nice original condition with age toning and light handling wear.
