WWI U.S. Remington Model 1917 Enfield Rifle – .30-06 Springfield – February 1918 Production – Original Military Configuration
Beautiful World War I U.S. Remington Model 1917 Enfield bolt-action rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield. This is an exceptionally attractive example of one of America’s most historically significant military rifles, retaining its original military-style configuration, walnut stock, military sights, and numerous U.S. military inspection and acceptance markings.
The receiver dates to approximately February 1918 production, while the original Remington-marked barrel is dated December 1917 (12-17), just two months earlier. This close relationship between the receiver production period and barrel date is consistent with early 1918 wartime assembly.
The rifle retains its military walnut stock and handguards, with visible cartouches, inspection stamps, and rack or inventory markings. The metal displays U.S. military eagle-head inspection marks and flaming bomb ordnance markings, important historical details associated with American military acceptance during World War I.
The Model 1917 was one of the principal rifles carried by American soldiers during the First World War. Manufactured by Remington, Winchester, and Eddystone, the design originated from the British Pattern 1914 Enfield and was adapted for the American .30-06 cartridge. More American troops were equipped with Model 1917 rifles than with the famous Springfield Model 1903 during the war.
This particular rifle is in excellent condition for its age, with attractive walnut furniture showing honest military handling marks, scratches, and minor impressions. The metal retains an attractive military finish with limited wear and age-related patina. The bore is excellent, with strong rifling and a clean appearance.
The rifle retains its distinctive protected rear aperture sight, military front sight, full-length wooden handguard, and original-pattern military hardware. The numerous visible inspection markings add considerably to its historical character.
An outstanding example of an American World War I service rifle, representing the industrial effort that equipped the American Expeditionary Forces during the Great War.
