Original 1942-dated World War II U.S. Army Amphibious Engineer Service Coat belonging to a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO). This impressive wartime uniform represents one of the Army’s specialized engineer formations responsible for planning, organizing, and supporting amphibious assault operations during World War II.

The coat is constructed of olive drab wool in the standard early-war service pattern and features original insignia denoting service with an Engineer Amphibious Unit. Engineer Amphibious units were established in 1942 to train and support assault landings, operating landing craft, moving troops and equipment from ship to shore, constructing beachheads, and maintaining supply lines during major invasions. The distinctive Amphibious Engineer insignia was first authorized in 1942 and became synonymous with these highly specialized assault forces.

This example is configured for a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, making it especially desirable to collectors, as senior enlisted uniforms from specialized engineer organizations are encountered less frequently than standard infantry examples.

Features include:

  • Original 1942-dated U.S. Army wool service coat
  • Senior NCO rank insignia
  • Original Engineer branch collar insignia
  • Amphibious Engineer unit insignia
  • Brass U.S. collar disc
  • Four-pocket service coat with original WWII buttons
  • Excellent display piece representing one of the Army’s elite amphibious organizations

Engineer Amphibious units served in numerous major campaigns throughout World War II, including operations in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Their mission was critical to establishing and sustaining assault landings under combat conditions, making uniforms from these units highly sought after by advanced U.S. military collectors.

Condition:
Very good original condition with expected light service wear. Insignia and buttons appear original to the coat. Displays exceptionally well and would make an outstanding addition to any WWII U.S. Army, Engineer Corps, or amphibious warfare collection.
