WWII 1943 U.S. Navy RBW-2 Panoramic Radio Adaptor Preliminary Manual Restricted

Original World War II U.S. Navy Preliminary Instruction Book for Navy Model RBW-2 Panoramic Radio Adaptor, manufactured by Panoramic Radio Corporation, New York, N.Y., and dated June 30, 1943.

The cover is marked RESTRICTED and identifies this as an early preliminary manual produced for the U.S. Navy Department – Bureau of Ships under contract NXss-33781. The pictured copy is also individually marked Serial No. 109, adding collector interest.

The RBW-2 was a wartime panoramic radio adaptor, essentially an early spectrum-display/spectrum-analysis device used with Navy radio receivers. Navy technical references list the RBW as a panoramic adapter and specifically identify the RBW-2 / CPN-55090-A as a Panoramic Radio Corporation unit with a 5.25 MHz IF input and 1 MHz sweep width.  A surviving RBW-2 is held by the National Electronics Museum and described as an RF spectrum analyzer, underscoring the historical importance of this equipment in the development of spectrum-analysis technology.
