Original WWII-era postage stamp block from the German General Government (Generalgouvernement), the German-administered portion of occupied Poland during World War II.

The piece consists of four connected 16-groschen stamps bearing a profile portrait of Adolf Hitler and the inscription “DEUTSCHES REICH – GENERALGOUVERNEMENT.” Most interestingly, the stamps remain attached to substantial original sheet margins. The upper-right selvage bears a printed German national eagle and swastika, while the left margin carries the printed sheet figures “80” and “64.”

This is considerably more visually interesting than four individual loose examples because the stamps have survived together as a block with the original marginal markings intact. The combination of the portrait stamps, occupied-Poland “Generalgouvernement” inscription, sheet-margin numbers, and eagle-and-swastika emblem gives the piece strong historical and display appeal.

These stamps originated from the postal system established in the General Government following the German occupation of Poland. German authorities issued numerous General Government stamps during the war, including definitive series featuring Hitler’s portrait. As a result, individual examples are generally obtainable today, but intact multiples and marginal pieces are more desirable to collectors.

From the photograph, the block appears unused and uncancelled, with clean perforations and strong original color. I cannot determine from the front photograph whether the stamps retain full original gum or whether any hinges or disturbances are present on the reverse; that is important for determining the exact philatelic grade and value. The block should therefore be described as unused unless the gum is inspected.
