WWII German Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF) Membership Book-Berlin- Extensive Dues Stamps 1941-1945-Named to Herbert Muth

Original WWII-era German Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF – German Labour Front) membership book, issued to Herbert Muth of Berlin. This is a particularly attractive example because it remains extensively filled out and retains a large number of original DAF membership dues stamps spanning the wartime period.

The red hardcover features the gold DAF cogwheel and swastika emblem prominently on the front. The interior identification page is completed in period handwriting and identifies the member as Herbert Muth, born December 28, 1905 in Berlin. His DAF membership is recorded as beginning August 1, 1941. The page bears his original signature along with multiple Berlin DAF administrative stamps and entries.

Of particular interest are the numerous original Deutsche Arbeitsfront “Beitrag” dues stamps still affixed throughout the book. The stamps appear in several denominations and colors and bear the DAF cogwheel/swastika insignia. Many have been individually canceled with dates and membership/account numbers. The surviving stamps document continued membership through much of the war, with entries visible for 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 and into 1945.

Another interior entry records two minor children and bears additional wartime administrative markings. The book also contains a large “Neuaufnahme” marking on one page, together with the printed regulations and administrative sections associated with DAF membership.

The Deutsche Arbeitsfront was established in 1933 after the Nazi government abolished Germany’s independent trade unions. It became one of the largest organizations in Nazi Germany and controlled much of the relationship between German workers and employers. Membership documents such as this provide an interesting primary-source record of civilian life, employment administration and the extensive organizational bureaucracy of wartime Germany.

Condition is very good for an original wartime paper document. The hardcover retains strong red coloration and a clearly visible gold front emblem. Interior pages remain generally clean and legible with expected age toning, handling wear, handwritten entries and period stamps. A handwritten name label is affixed to the rear cover.
