WWII German Dresden Postcard-Luftpost Cancellation-1930’s Third Reich Era

Original pre-WWII German photographic postcard depicting a panoramic view of Dresden along the Elbe River, captioned “Dresden – Elbe-Hauptansicht.” The image provides an excellent period view of Dresden’s historic skyline, including the Frauenkirche and other prominent landmarks, before the extensive destruction the city suffered during WWII.

The reverse is particularly interesting. It is an internationally mailed and handwritten example, addressed to London, England, and retains its original 15-pfennig Deutsches Reich postage stamp. The stamp bears a period cancellation, and the card also has a prominent illustrated “Benutzt die Luftpost!” (“Use Airmail!”) postal slogan featuring an airplane.

The handwritten English message describes the sender’s visit to Dresden, noting that it is a “very beautiful town,” that they had toured many interesting places, and commenting on the kindness of the local people. This gives the postcard considerably more historical character than an unused tourist card.

Condition is good overall for its age, with expected handling and edge/corner wear, light surface wear, and age toning. Stamp, cancellation, handwriting, and photograph remain readily presentable. Please refer to photographs for exact condition.
