WWII German Engelmann Family Feldpost & Postcard Archive-Burgstadt Saxony 1940-1942-Military Unit Stamps

Original WWII-era German family correspondence archive consisting of a group of postcards and Feldpost pieces connected to the Engelmann family of Burgstädt, Saxony, with multiple cards addressed to the same family and repeatedly tied to the address Bergstraße 3, Burgstädt.

This is not simply a random assortment of German postcards. The repeated surnames, addresses, and wartime dates establish the group as a cohesive family correspondence archive, with cards addressed to or associated with members of the Engelmann family, including Kurt Engelmann, Willi Engelmann, Martina/Marianne Engelmann, and Thea Engelmann.

The archive includes a variety of wartime German postal material, including scenic photographic postcards, holiday and greeting cards, civilian correspondence, Feldpost cards, and postcards bearing original Third Reich-era postal and military markings.

Several of the stronger pieces include original Feldpost markings and German military unit/service stamps featuring the national eagle and swastika, along with period postal cancellations. One Easter greeting card is specifically marked “Feldpost!”, dated April 2, 1942, and addressed to the Familie Kurt Engelmann at Burgstädt. Another card bears a large purple military eagle/swastika unit stamp and is addressed to an Engelmann family member at the same Burgstädt address.

Other cards include wartime views of locations such as Leipzig, Stettin, and Zittau, along with personal correspondence, New Year and Easter greetings, family messages, and photographic or illustrated cards. Several retain original 6 Pfennig Deutsches Reich Hindenburg stamps and period cancellations.

The correspondence appears to span approximately 1940 through 1942, documenting ordinary family communication during the early and middle years of World War II.
