WWII German Handwritten Letter from Hungary During Closing Months of WWII-March 8, 1945

Original WWII German handwritten wartime letter dated March 8, 1945, written from Hungary during the closing months of World War II.

This lengthy multi-page personal letter is written in period German cursive and was addressed to a family member, beginning “Dear Aunt Anni.” The writer, who signs the letter Heinrich, discusses correspondence from home, family members, his circumstances, the ongoing wartime situation and his hopes that his relatives remain safe.

The March 1945 date makes this an especially interesting piece of late-war history, written while heavy fighting was still taking place in Hungary only weeks before the collapse of Nazi Germany.

The letter survives in well-used original condition with period folds, staining, discoloration, edge wear and handling marks. Writing remains largely clear and extensive on both sides/pages.
