WWII German Landgericht Bohmisch-Leila Court Document-Sudetenland- 1939-1941

Original WWII-era German court document/file envelope from the Landgericht in Böhmisch-Leipa, located in the Sudetenland region that had been incorporated into Nazi Germany following the 1938 annexation.

The reverse retains the printed institutional heading:

“Landgericht in Böhmisch-Leipa”
Regional Court at Böhmisch-Leipa

Böhmisch-Leipa is today known as Česká Lípa in the Czech Republic.

The front of the envelope contains numerous original handwritten court and administrative notations in German script. Visible entries include references to the Klägerin (female plaintiff) and Beklagter (defendant), indicating that this envelope was associated with an actual legal proceeding handled through the regional court.

Several period dates are visible among the docket notations, including entries from 1939 and a later notation dated 1941, showing that the file remained in use during the WWII period.

Historical Significance

Following Germany’s annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938, the existing court system in the region was reorganized under German administration. Böhmisch-Leipa became the seat of a German Landgericht, or Regional Court.

This envelope therefore represents an original surviving piece of the German judicial bureaucracy operating in the Sudetenland during the Third Reich period.

Unlike a blank government envelope, this example contains extensive handwritten case-processing information, dates, signatures, and docket-style notations showing actual administrative use.

Condition

Good original used condition with substantial period character.

The envelope shows expected age toning, creasing, edge wear, small tears, handling marks and wear along the closure/flap area. The upper printed court identification remains clearly visible, while the handwritten entries on the front remain generally strong and legible.

No restoration or cleaning has been performed.
