Original WWII German M42 steel helmet shell. This example retains its original factory-applied interior paint and visible stamped shell lot number 3497, while the exterior has been repainted at some point after service. The liner, chinstrap, and decals are no longer present, leaving a clean display shell with strong wartime characteristics.

The M42 was the final wartime evolution of the German combat helmet, identifiable by its simplified rolled-edge deletion and stamped raw rim. Despite the exterior repaint, the untouched interior provides collectors with an opportunity to examine original wartime finish, factory stampings, and period markings.
