WWII German Soldier Feldpost Letter-July 22, 1940-France Campaign/Homecoming Content-Original Envelope

Original German WWII Feldpost letter with its matching field-post envelope, dated 22 July 1940, shortly after the conclusion of the German campaign in France.

The multi-page letter is handwritten in German script and addressed “Lieber Richard” (Dear Richard). It was written during a particularly significant period of WWII, only about a month after the French armistice of June 1940.

The letter contains substantial personal and military-era content. The writer discusses his current circumstances, comrades and family, and repeatedly refers to the possibility of returning home. Particularly interesting is discussion concerning France, including references to having been there and expectations surrounding the soldiers’ return following the campaign. He also discusses news from home, relatives, acquaintances, and the uncertainty of when he will finally be able to return.

The original envelope is marked “Feldpost” and addressed to Richard Bräuner (surname appears to read Bräuner). It carries a circular German Feldpost cancellation/marking and handwritten military routing information. The reverse retains additional period writing identifying the sender.

The letter consists of multiple densely handwritten pages, providing considerably more content than the typical short Feldpost note. The correspondence would make an excellent candidate for a full German transcription and translation, which could potentially reveal additional military or campaign details.

Condition is very good overall for an 86-year-old field letter. Original folds are present along with light toning, minor edge wear and handling. The writing remains strong and legible. Envelope shows expected postal wear. Please see photographs for exact condition.
