WWII German Wehrmacht Feldpost Letter & Envelope-Feldpost Nr. 32036-Nov. 3, 1940

Original wartime German military correspondence consisting of the handwritten letter and its original Feldpost envelope. The letter is dated 3.XI.40 (November 3, 1940) and begins “Mein Liebling” (“My darling”), indicating personal correspondence sent home by a German serviceman.

The envelope is addressed to Michael Peer, in Pasing, with the address appearing to include Herslfing/Herlfing, Post Wallerfing, Niederbayern. The upper portion is prominently marked “Feldpost.”

Most importantly, the envelope bears a blue circular German military Feldpost/unit cachet incorporating the Wehrmacht eagle and swastika. The lower portion of the stamp reads:

“Feldpost Nr. 32036”

The reverse also appears to have a handwritten sender notation including “Peer 32036,” reinforcing the association of the letter with that Feldpost number.

The postal cancellation appears dated 5.XI.40, only two days after the letter was written.

The handwritten letter contains interesting wartime content. From what I can make out, the writer discusses his circumstances and movement, including references to France (“Frankreich”), comrades, travel by train, and being away for an extended period. This makes it more historically interesting than an otherwise routine short greeting card. A complete German transcription and translation could potentially add value by establishing exactly where the writer was and what his unit was doing.

Condition is very good for an approximately 86-year-old piece of field correspondence. Letter remains complete and legible with original folds. Envelope has expected handling, edge wear, toning and opening wear but retains strong markings. The military cachet is somewhat light but readily identifiable.
