WWII U.S. Army Air Forces C-198/AR ARQ-8 Radio-Jamming Amplifier Control Unit

Original WWII U.S. military aircraft Control Unit C-198/AR, used with the ARQ-8 airborne electronic-countermeasures system. The ARQ-8 was developed to interfere with German radio-controlled glide bombs threatening Allied ships in the Mediterranean. This unit allowed the operator to switch the AM-33/ART power amplifier between the transmitter and antenna circuits, increasing the jammer’s effective output to approximately 100 watts. Marked connections include “AMPL IN,” “AMPL OUT,” “XMTR,” and “ANT,” with transmit, receive, control, and send positions on the selector. Retains its original identification plate, mounting hardware, connectors, and MT-336/AR-style mounting base. Displays substantial authentic service wear, including paint loss, oxidation, scratches, and surface grime. Selector moves, but electrical operation has not been tested. A scarce and historically significant piece of early American airborne electronic-warfare equipment.
