WWII U.S. Military RT-48A/TPX-1 IFF Radar Transmitter-Receiver with Case & Schematic
Original WWII-era RT-48A/TPX-1 transmitter-receiver, a component of the AN/TPX-1 ground-based Identification Friend or Foe radar system. This equipment helped identify friendly aircraft detected by associated radar installations. Offered here is the transmitter-receiver unit, rather than a complete radar system. (radar.tpub.com)
Identification plate bears serial number 2203, manufacturer code CAFQ, and contract marking 3029-MPD-44. The plate and front panel specify 115-volt, 400-cycle power.
Housed in an olive-drab metal enclosure with a removable front cover stenciled with its equipment designation. Inside the cover are a detailed transmitter-receiver schematic and a capacitor/resistor color-code chart. Features two substantial front handles, receiver and transmitter tuning controls, metering selector, ventilation screens, and labeled antenna, synchronization, video, control, and power connections.
Displays well with legible panel markings and surviving warning labels. Shows scratches, chipped paint, staining, dust, and oxidation consistent with age and storage. The schematic has discoloration and lifting along portions of its edges.
Internal completeness and operation have not been verified. Sold untested for historical collection, display, parts, or restoration. Includes the unit and cover pictured; no antennas, external cables, control box, or other system components included.
